23 September 2012, 4.30pm to 10pm - Singapore Expo - Max AtriaThe Holy Quran, traditions of Prophet Muhammad, salallahu alaihi wasallam, and narrations of sahabah (companions) are replete with abundant encouragement, advice, proof and indication of the necessity of loving the Prophet Muhammad (s) and suffice to show that this duty is an immensely important obligation. Our faith is perfected only when our love for the Prophet exceeds our love for everything else in this world.
We are asked to love and celebrate Prophet Muhammad (s), but how can we express this love for Prophet Muhammad (s)? One of the earliest examples was Hassan Ibn Thabit, a close companion of Prophet Muhammad. Then there is the example of the Imam Al-Busiri who expressed his tremendous love for the Prophet through the Qasida Burda, considered as one of the greatest expressions of love written in honour of Prophet Muhammad (s).
In this light, SimplyIslam is pleased to present the inaugural Mawid Festival 2012, with the theme "Celebrating Muhammad - Expressions of Love". The Mawlid Festival will showcase some speeches in Malay and English by local and international scholars, and present various recital and performing groups from countries like USA, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia, all presenting different expressions of love for Sayyidina Muhammad (s), through their songs and poetic expressions. Through this Mawlid Festival we hope to achieve the following:
i) Instill in the hearts of our participants the love and honour of the Beloved of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (s).
ii) Inspire our participants to emulate the beautiful character of Prophet Muhammad (s).
iii)Showcase the diverse and vibrant spiritual and cultural heritage of Islam through the various expressions of love for Allah and His Messenger (s).
iv)Heighten people's appreciation of the different genres and cultures of the Islamic music and arts.
