What do you do when you are uncertain of the necessity of a tapak sirih on your pelamin?
What do you do when you find yourself at loggerheads with your elders over plans for the big day?
What you should do, is to attend this talk.
My Big Fat Malay Wedding intends to mimic the 2002 Canadian movie called My Big Fat Greek Wedding about a Greek couple whose wedding planning was interfered by helpful relatives and having traditional parents who insisted on having a long invite-list of friends and distant relatives. Unmistakably, the conflicts and challenges portrayed in this movie have an immense resemblance to that of a Malay wedding. Evidently, the younger generation is experiencing a paradigm shift in their idea of an ideal wedding. Unfortunately, this ideal, when juxtaposed with the mindset of the elders, may seem like a drastic cultural change.
This workshop will assist participants in:
Understanding the fundamental requirements of a walimah
Understanding the principles and spirit behind the concept of walimah in Islam
Managing the expectations of various parties during the wedding preparation
Facilitating a cohesive understanding between elders and the to-be-married couple
